This programme aims to create and manage a Middle European training center for traditional building skills at the site of the Bánffy Castle in the village of Bontida. In September of 1999 Bánffy Castle was added to the World Monuments Fund list of 100 Most Endangered Sites.

The preservation of the unique architectural heritage of Rimetea is of national importance and reaches far beyond the resources available in the local communities.

A significant number of the historic buildings in Transylvania, more than 400, embody mural paintings and painted panel ceilings, representing a specific and artistically valuable part of the built heritage.

A considerable part of the Transylvanian built heritage has been exposed to continuous social transformations resulting in abondonment and eventual decline. This project is an effort to document these abandoned structures.

Using Western European experiences, this project aims to train Romanian craftspeople in traditional building crafts. The restoration of the Bethlen Gábor College buildings in the town of Aiud will serve as a practical application for this project.

Vernacular buildings represent a special and valuable part of Transylvanian architectural heritage, embodying a transformed and gradually disappearing country-life.
