PRESS RELEASE

Traditional Building Crafts and Restoration Training Centre at Bánffy Castle in Bontida

The objective of this programme is to establish a Middle European Monument Restoration Training Centre in the Bánffy Castle in Bontida. The practical training of craftsmen by performing conservation tasks also creates the opportunity of restoring the historic ensemble of the castle, outbuildings and park. At the beginning the local schoolrooms are to be used for theoretical classes, later on restoring the castle's buildings step by step, these will be converted into educational spaces. Creating sufficient space for lodgings and educational surface, a second stage may follow with education at intermediate and advanced levels – housing the postgraduate training course on preservation of Cluj-N., launched in 1998.

The programme will progressively create all levels within the restoration field such as craftsmen, intermediate and postgraduate training while also teaching basic education, retraining and specialisation. The Monument Restoration Training Centre of Bontida is to be managed by the Transylvania Trust Foundation, which will also be the administrator of the building-ensemble. To perform the programme specialists, institutions and organisations from the country and abroad are invited to cooperate.
