From a scientific point of view the research of historic structures can be considered the less developed branch of monument
preservation and restoration. The primary goal of this conference series, begun in 1997, is to promote dialogue between experts
and exchange of experiences concerning research, conservation and preservation of historic structures. The long-term objective
of the programme is initiation and organisation of a comprehensive research project concerning historic structures in the whole
Carpathian basin.
The second edition of the conference-series was held between 26th and 29th November 1998. More than 100
participants – from the country and abroad, mainly Hungary – attended 10 lectures, simultaneous interpretation was provided in
Romanian and Hungarian languages. The proceedings of the conference contains the printed papers, as well as the programme and
the short description of the places visited during the field trip on the route: Bontida - Mănăstirea - Bistrita - Teaca, which together
with a poster presentation enriched the programme of the meeting. Organisers are the Transylvania Trust; Transylvanian
Monument Restorers Society; Direction of Monument Preservation of the Ministry of Culture, Romania and Technical University
of Cluj-N, Faculty of Architecture and Engineering. Sponsors of the '98 event were Ministry of Culture, Romania; the Creativ
Group Co., Bistrita and the Utilitas Conservation Centre, Cluj-N.
