Plaza Vieja [

Left:
In the center of Plaza Vieja a former parking garage was torn down and
preparation is being made for what appears to be a fountain. A large hole
is being dug in the center of the plaza. A few buildings around the plaza
appeared recently restored, in particular the blue and peach buildings
in the background.

Right: There are some very
beautiful buildings around Plaza Vieja, some fixed up, others in bad condition
and partially collapsed. The former PalacioVienna Hotel is one of the most
striking buildings around Plaza Vieja. This building was hard to pinpoint
in style, I would call it Baroque Nouveau possibly (if you can name style
please send a comment!). This former hotel is now the home to many people
and is in need of some repairs and cleaning.
Left:
One of the most dramatic scenes of deterioration, a brace was built
across the street to hold up a building that had a tree growing out of
its second story window. Across from this is another building in shadow
completely supported by wooden bracing.

Right:This beautiful Art
Nouveau/Art Deco tile was located in a building a few feet from Plaza Vieja.
Though the building was in disrepair and pitch dark inside this gem caught
my eye. [click on this image to see a larger picture.]
