IN FIVE YEARS WITH NEW BAND SPIRIT CARAVAN, ENTITLED JUG FULLA SUN,
ON JOE LALLY’S NEWLY FOUNDED TOLOTTA RECORDS
RELEASE DATE IS APRIL 19, 1999, DISTRIBUTION VIA DISCHORD Jug Fulla Sun, the 10th full-length album of Wino’s long and often arduous career, and the debut full-length for Spirit Caravan, is set for release April 19, 1999. The album out on Joe Lally’s (Fugazi) newly founded label, Tolotta Records, will be available through Dischord in the US and via Southern Records (www.Southern.com), in Europe. Wino’s name and preceding bands, including The Obsessed and St. Vitus, long ago achieved cult status in heavy music and punk music circles. When legendary doom band The Obsessed split, after releasing their only major label album on Columbia (other releases included two full lengths on Hellhound, a 7” on Bongload and a track on an early Metal Blade compilation) many thought Wino had disappeared forever. But in 1996 his name began to re-emerge in the D.C. area, where it all began for him some 20 years early, when he originally founded The Obsessed. His new band, Shine, was instantly embraced by old and new fans alike. Wino’s signature guitar sound and vocals have become even more mesmerizing since his disappearance in 1995. Shine released a demo entitled, Powertime, which sold 600 units and then a limited pressing of a red vinyl 7” on Tolotta Records - all 1000 pieces have since sold out! In 1998 the band changed their name to Spirit Caravan. Now Spirit Caravan are ready with their first full-length debut, called Jug Fulla Sun. With Wino on vocals and guitar and Gary Isom (Iron Man, Pentagram, Unorthodox, Wretched) on drums and Dave Sherman (Love Razor, Wretched) on bass, this album is an intense trip through psychedelia, Stoner Rock rumble and Doom Metal heaviness. The band has toured with Clutch, opened for Deep Purple and Fugazi, and has shared billing with Down, Crowbar, Trouble and Sixty Watt Shaman to name a few. The album was recorded over the past year by their soundman, Chris Kozlowski (who is noted for his work with The Obsessed, Melvins, Trouble and Raging Slab) on a portable A-DAT. The 13 tracks on the album are “Healing Tongue,” “Courage,” “Cosmic Artifact,” “Fear’s Machine,” “Powertime,” “Dead Love/Jug Fulla Sun,” “ Fang,” “C.H.A.W.,” “Melancholy Grey,” “Sea Legs,” “Kill Ugly Naked,” “Lost Sundance” and “No Hope Goat Farm.” Spirit Caravan is a D.C. area based band. They tour and perform consistently.
